Rio from above
We couldn't bring you to Rio without showing you why it's called the Cidade Maravilhosa, the Marvelous City. This is the day for the postcards: the statue with open arms, the mountain in the bay, the staircase that became a work of art.
It's also a day to see that Rio is more than its beaches. If you join the favela visit, you'll meet the communities that gave the world samba and so much of Brazil's culture.
Did you know?
- Christ the Redeemer was completed in 1931. The statue is 30 meters (98 feet) tall with arms spanning 28 meters, and it was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.
- The Sugarloaf cable car opened in 1912, one of the first of its kind in the world.
- Chilean artist Jorge Selarón covered the Selarón Steps in more than 2,000 tiles from over 60 countries. They star in Snoop Dogg and Pharrell's video for 'Beautiful'.
