Why Brazilians dance until sunrise
In Brazil, a wedding isn't really over until the sun comes up. The ceremony is sacred, the dinner is lovely, but the part everyone remembers is the party, the one that keeps going long after the cake is cut, when the grandparents are still on the dance floor at 2 a.m. and nobody wants to be the first to leave.
That's the celebration we want with you. After a whole week of blending our cultures and our families, this is the night we stop counting the hours. We don't want it to end, and we hope you won't either.
Did you know?
- Brazilian weddings often hand out Havaianas flip-flops late in the night so guests can keep dancing once their feet give up.
- After midnight comes the 'comida de madrugada': a warm caldinho de feijão (black bean soup) or mini sandwiches to refuel the dance floor.
- Brigadeiros, the chocolate truffles at every Brazilian celebration, were named after a brigadier who ran for president in 1945.
